Islamabad(The COW News Digital) Pakistan has extended its airspace restrictions on Indian aircraft for another month, further escalating tensions in the ongoing diplomatic standoff between the two South Asian neighbors.

According to a new NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, all Indian-registered aircraft are barred from entering Pakistani airspace until August 23, 2025. This includes both civilian and military aircraft, whether owned or operated by India or leased from foreign entities.

The restrictions, which were first imposed on April 23, have now been extended for the third consecutive time. The initial closure of Pakistani airspace to Indian airlines was a direct response to rising geopolitical friction and recent security concerns. Though no official reason has been provided for the latest extension, sources within Pakistan’s aviation sector indicate that the move is likely linked to broader strategic considerations and recent regional developments.

The Civil Aviation Authority further clarified that the ban will remain in effect until 4:59 AM (PST) on August 24, 2025, emphasizing that the restriction covers all Indian civil and military aircraft, including those leased or operated under Indian registry.

The continued closure significantly impacts Indian commercial airlines, especially those operating westbound international routes. These carriers now have to reroute flights, leading to increased fuel costs, longer flight durations, and operational disruptions.

Regional aviation analysts suggest that the ongoing ban is symptomatic of deteriorating India-Pakistan relations, particularly in the aftermath of unresolved bilateral disputes and recent political rhetoric on both sides. The closure also raises concerns over the freedom of overflight as governed by international aviation conventions, though Pakistan maintains it is acting within its sovereign rights.

The Indian government has not yet officially responded to the latest extension, but officials are reportedly assessing alternative air routes and potential diplomatic avenues to address the issue.

With each extension, hopes for de-escalation fade further, as the aviation standoff adds another layer of strain to already fragile ties. Unless diplomatic engagement resumes soon, the regional aviation industry may continue to bear the brunt of the fallout.
