The couple was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Sunday, less than a day after they were acquitted in the iddat case.

The accountability court approved the NAB’s request for physical remand, ordering the couple to be interrogated in Adiala jail and produced before the court on July 22. Khan’s lawyer, Zaheer Abbas Chaudhary, argued that the arrest was unlawful and that they were already busy with the £190 million reference. The lawyer also stated that their petition seeking bail was already being heard in the Supreme Court.

Khan has been in jail since August last year, serving sentences in multiple cases, including the Toshakhana criminal case. He was also arrested in May in connection with cases registered in Lahore, including attacks on Jinnah House, Askari Tower, and Shadman police station. The PTI founder will appear in an anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Monday via video link, and the police will request his remand for further investigations.

The developments come as the PTI celebrates a legal victory, with the Supreme Court declaring the party eligible for allocation of reserved seats. However, Khan’s continued detention has sparked concerns among his supporters, who claim the arrests are politically motivated.
