New Delhi : Kashmiri students from the illegally occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir staged a protest in New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against the Modi government’s current reservation policy. The demonstration, organized under the banner of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, saw participation from students, political leaders, and civil society members who condemned the negative impact the policy has on merit.

The protest, led by Jammu and Kashmir Students Association Convenor Nasir Khoi Hami, highlighted concerns regarding the fairness of the reservation policy. The protesters argued that the current framework undermines merit and does not reflect the demographic realities of Jammu and Kashmir. They called for a reasonable and proportional reservation system based on population statistics to ensure justice.

Notable participants included Sheikh Ashiq, leader of the Public Unity Party, Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sopari, president of the All India People’s Congress, and student activist Mir Mujib. They reiterated their support for a balanced reservation policy, emphasizing the need for equal opportunities for youth.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association warned that if the Modi government fails to address their demands to reform the system, protests will be organized in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Nasir Khoi Hami emphasized that their fight is for equality and fair opportunities for all, urging the Indian government to take immediate steps to prevent the alienation of the region’s youth.
