Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the distribution of solar panels will commence on Independence Day, August 14.
Under the “Roshan Gharana” program, 45 lakh household consumers will be installed with solar systems in easy installments. The scheme is designed to benefit households with varying levels of electricity consumption. Those using up to 200 units of electricity per month will receive free solar panels, while those consuming 200-500 units will get solar panels at only 10% of the cost, with the Punjab government subsidizing the remaining 90%.
Households with higher electricity consumption, above 500 units per month, will receive 75% interest-free loans for solar panel installation. The solar panels will be supplied through banks in a five-year interest-free installment plan, making it easier for households to adopt renewable energy.
The initiative aims to reduce electricity bills by 40%, providing significant relief to consumers struggling with rising electricity prices. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that it is her mission to provide relief to the people, acknowledging the difficult situations but reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the public.
This scheme is a significant step towards promoting renewable energy and reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels. By providing free solar panels to households, the government is not only reducing energy costs but also contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
