LARKANA (The COW News Digital) Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Jr, son of the late Mir Murtaza Bhutto and grandson of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, has announced that he will contest his first-ever election from Larkana, marking his formal entry into national politics.

Speaking during a public gathering in Dadu, Bhutto Jr declared his intention to step into the political arena without forming any alliances, emphasizing that his strength will come directly from the power of the people.

He stated, “We must move forward with a new vision. We will not tolerate the exploitation and land grabbing of Sindh’s resources and minerals. Politics should not be a game for the rich alone.” His comments pointed toward a populist and reformist agenda inspired by the political philosophy of his father, Shaheed Mir Murtaza Bhutto.

Zulfiqar Jr affirmed his commitment to upholding the legacy and ideology of his father while promising a fresh approach to governance. “We are not here to follow traditional paths. We are coming forward with a new vision, a new ideology, and the unwavering belief in the power of ordinary citizens,” he said.

Although he announced Larkana as his constituency, Bhutto Jr did not specify whether he would contest a National Assembly or a Provincial Assembly seat. Larkana currently has two National Assembly and four Provincial Assembly seats, leaving observers speculating about which one he will choose.

Political analysts view his announcement as significant, considering the deep-rooted Bhutto legacy in Larkana, once the political stronghold of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). However, Zulfiqar Jr has maintained a noticeable distance from the PPP and did not indicate any intention to align with existing political forces, signaling a potential shift in Sindh’s political landscape.

He also stressed the importance of grassroots mobilization and called for resistance against elite-driven politics. “We do not want dynastic politics for the sake of power. We want people’s representation based on justice, transparency, and dignity,” he concluded.

As election fever begins to rise ahead of the upcoming general polls, Zulfiqar Jr’s entry into the political arena is being closely watched, particularly by those yearning for political reform and generational change in Pakistan.
