Lahore: Today, on December 1st, World AIDS Day is being observed globally, including in Pakistan. This day was first celebrated in 1987, with the aim of raising awareness about preventive measures against the deadly disease and providing information about HIV/AIDS to the public.
It has been over 25 years since the discovery of AIDS, and so far, more than 25 million people worldwide have lost their lives to the disease. AIDS is considered one of the most dangerous diseases in human history, and despite extensive research, a complete cure has not yet been found. However, there are medications available that can slow the progression of the disease, and with timely and proper use, patients can live for many years.Medical experts say that while the number of AIDS patients is decreasing globally, there has been a concerning increase in the HIV virus in Pakistan. The main cause of the spread of AIDS in Pakistan is the improper use of syringes by drug users. According to estimates, the number of people affected by the HIV virus in Pakistan has surpassed 200,000.
On this World AIDS Day, experts have emphasized the need to raise awareness about the prevention of AIDS, so that the spread of the disease can be stopped and the lives of affected individuals can be improved
