Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Mariam Nawaz has stated that Hammad Niazi’s release, ten years from now, will come at a time when the world will have changed drastically. Addressing an event at Sargodha University, where scholarships were distributed among outstanding students, she emphasized that students should not become pawns in the pursuit of political power.
Mariam Nawaz said, “Hammad Niazi, who is the nephew and lawyer of PTI founder Imran Khan, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Ask his parents what they are going through. In ten years, when he is released, the world will be a very different place.”
She further remarked on the nature of political opposition, stating that differences can be expressed within the bounds of civility. “Which politics teaches you to snatch someone’s parents away from them?” she questioned, urging young people to reflect on their actions and not be misled by political motives.
The Chief Minister also condemned the spreading of false accusations, calling it a grave sin, and stressed that political differences should not lead to violence or destruction. “You don’t need to burn buildings or damage public property for political reasons. Political dissent should not result in such acts of violence.”
Mariam Nawaz also appealed to the youth, urging them to avoid falling for manipulative rhetoric. “When a child is in prison, how do the parents sleep? Don’t believe everything you hear. Recognize those who use others’ children for their own agenda. The ones who incited violence in the country are now in jails,” she added.
She concluded by emphasizing national unity and responsibility: “We must never turn against our country. Regardless of the circumstances, we must work for the development of our nation. Pakistan is our home, and by remaining loyal to it, we will ensure its progress.”
