Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp will stop working on mobile phones with operating systems that can no longer be updated, starting January 1, 2025.

This decision is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to keep up with the latest technological advancements and improve the user experience. Devices with older operating systems will no longer receive updates and will lose access to new features.
