Karachi (The COW News Digital) – Legendary Pakistani television actress Ayesha Khan has passed away at the age of 77, marking the end of an era for the golden age of Pakistani drama. Her death was confirmed by her close friend and fellow industry veteran, Tehmina Khalid.
According to Khalid, Ayesha Khan breathed her last five days ago in Karachi following a prolonged illness. “She had been unwell for some time and passed away quietly, away from the limelight she once graced so powerfully,” Khalid told reporters.
Ayesha Khan was one of the most recognized and respected names from the early years of Pakistan Television (PTV), remembered for her powerful performances and dignified screen presence. She was part of the generation that defined the golden age of Pakistani drama, leaving behind a legacy of iconic roles and unforgettable characters.
Among her most celebrated television dramas are “Afshan,” “Aroosa,” “Family 93,” and “Mehndi”—productions that remain beloved by viewers even decades later. Her work was known for its emotional depth and the unique grace she brought to every character she portrayed.
Ayesha Khan was also the elder sister of another acclaimed actress, the late Khalida Riyasat, who was known for her dynamic and memorable roles in the 1980s and early 1990s. Together, the sisters played a significant role in shaping Pakistan’s television narrative during its formative years.
Despite her immense contributions, Ayesha Khan had been away from the entertainment industry for many years. Friends and colleagues note that she had chosen a life of privacy in recent times, distancing herself from media appearances and interviews.
Tributes poured in from across Pakistan’s entertainment industry as news of her passing spread. Actors, directors, and fans took to social media to express their sorrow and reflect on her lasting contributions to the arts.
Veteran actor and director Sajid Hassan described her as “a towering presence in every sense—on screen and off it. Her poise, her command of emotion, and her deep understanding of character work set a standard for all of us.”
Director and producer Sultana Siddiqui remarked, “She was from the era when acting was pure and soulful. She’ll always be remembered as one of the finest we ever had.”
Younger actors and fans, many of whom grew up watching her performances in reruns, also paid tribute, acknowledging her role in paving the way for future generations.
While her passing marks the physical end of a great artist, her work remains etched in the cultural memory of Pakistan. Ayesha Khan’s legacy lives on through the powerful roles she played and the impact she had on the industry.
Funeral prayers were held in Karachi in a quiet ceremony attended by family and close friends. According to sources, she had requested a simple burial away from public attention.
