Australian opener Usman Khawaja achieved a significant milestone in Test cricket by scoring his maiden double century against Sri Lanka.
Khawaja’s stellar knock came off 290 balls, making him the first Australian batter to score a double century on Sri Lankan soil. He was eventually dismissed for 232 runs, marking a historic achievement.
Before Khawaja, Australian legends like Mark Taylor, Greg Chappell, Dean Jones, Matthew Hayden, and Jason Gillespie had registered double centuries in Asia. With this feat, he becomes the sixth Australian player to achieve this milestone in the region.
The first Test match against Sri Lanka is currently in progress, with Australia dominating. On the previous day, Steve Smith reached 10,000 Test runs, scoring 141 before getting out, while Josh Inglis contributed 102 runs.
With five wickets down, Australia has piled up a massive total against Sri Lanka, asserting their control over the match.
