US Anti-Muslim Incidents Surge 70% in 2024 Amid Global Rise in Islamophobia

A disturbing trend has emerged in the United States, with anti-Muslim incidents rising by approximately 70% in the first half of 2024. This alarming increase is part of a broader global surge in Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian bias, and antisemitism, exacerbated by the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has documented 4,951 complaints of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian incidents between January and June 2024, a significant increase from the same period in 2023. These incidents include:

  • Immigration and asylum discrimination
  • Employment discrimination
  • Education discrimination
  • Hate crimes

Notable incidents include the fatal stabbing of a 6-year-old Palestinian-American child in Illinois, the stabbing of a Palestinian-American man in Texas, and the attempted drowning of a 3-year-old Palestinian-American girl.

The report also highlights the crackdown on pro-Palestinian protests and encampments on university campuses, as well as the global response to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

CAIR’s findings are based on public statements, videos, and reports from public calls, emails, and an online complaint system.
