The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) report has endorsed Pakistan’s stance on terrorism emanating from Afghan soil. The report highlights that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is operating from Afghanistan, with its operatives and new recruits being trained there. The TTP has been declared as ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ by the Pakistani government.
The Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, stated that the report validates Pakistan’s long-held view that the TTP has a support structure in Afghanistan. The report also mentions increased collaboration between the TTP and Afghan Taliban, sharing manpower and training camps in Afghanistan.
The FO urged Afghanistan to take immediate and robust action against terrorist groups, including the TTP, and ensure that its soil is not used for terrorist activities in Pakistan. The UNSC report also expressed concern over the heightened terrorist threat emanating from Afghanistan, which has caused concern among UN member states.
The FO also denounced Israel’s aggression against Palestinians, particularly the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, which is a violation of international law and global norms.
