The United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) has strongly condemned recent Israeli airstrikes near humanitarian aid centers in Gaza, labeling them a violation of international law.
According to Al Jazeera, from May 27 to May 31, Israeli attacks around Rafah and the Netzarim corridor have killed at least 19 Palestinians and injured over 80. The victims were reportedly seeking essential aid.
The UN criticized the militarization of aid distribution, stating it endangers civilian lives and breaches humanitarian principles. “Turning food into a weapon or obstructing access to life-saving supplies not only constitutes a war crime but may amount to acts of genocide,” OHCHR said.
The statement urged immediate protection for civilians and unimpeded humanitarian access, emphasizing that the targeting of relief efforts undermines the very foundation of international humanitarian law.
