New York( The COW News Digital)United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has urged the international community to take immediate and decisive action to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict, warning that the long-standing crisis is now approaching dangerously critical levels.
Speaking at a high-level global conference on the two-state solution and the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue, Guterres emphasized that “the time has come to end the occupation.” He condemned decades of inaction and hollow rhetoric under the banner of peace, stating that “for generations, peace has been promised but rarely pursued in good faith.”
Guterres criticized the use of peace as a pretext rather than a genuine objective, adding that speeches, declarations, and resolutions have lost their impact on those living under occupation, facing destruction, oppression, and inequality.
The UN chief strongly reiterated that the only fair and lasting solution lies in the establishment of two independent and democratic states—Israel and Palestine—based on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as a shared capital, in line with international law and UN resolutions.
He openly questioned those who oppose this framework, asking:
Guterres stressed that such a future is neither peaceful nor just, and certainly not sustainable.
In his address, he acknowledged that the conflict has persisted across generations, challenging international laws and testing the limits of global diplomacy. However, he expressed cautious optimism, noting that the situation is not beyond resolution—provided there is bold political leadership and courageous decision-making.
Concluding his remarks, Guterres urged UN member states to go beyond symbolic gestures and move toward concrete, actionable steps. He called on the participants to make the current conference a turning point, leading to the end of the occupation and meaningful progress toward the two-state solution.
