Ukraine has stopped the flow of Russian gas to Europe after the expiration of the supply agreement. The decision was made on Wednesday when the current contract came to an end. Ukraine chose not to renew the agreement, marking a symbolic move amid the ongoing three-year war, especially as Europe has been reducing its gas imports from Russia.

In a statement, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy emphasized that the decision was made with national security concerns in mind. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the move as “one of Moscow’s major defeats.”

In a Telegram post, President Zelensky stated that Moscow has been using energy as a weapon, attempting to blackmail its partners through energy supplies.
