A light aircraft crashed off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of a 26-year-old Pakistani female pilot and her sole passenger, a 26-year-old Indian-origin doctor.

According to Khaleej Times, the plane took off at 2:00 PM for a recreational flight. Shortly after takeoff, it went down near the coastline, tragically killing both individuals onboard.

The pilot has been identified as a young Pakistani woman, while the passenger, Suleiman Al Majid, was a UAE-born Indian doctor. His parents had emigrated from India to settle in the UAE.

Dr. Suleiman’s father shared with Khaleej Times that his son had rented the light aircraft for a leisure flight. “It was meant to be a short trip, but the plane crashed soon after takeoff,” he said.

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has confirmed the incident and announced that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
