– U.S. President Donald Trump has offered to mediate between India and Pakistan amid rising tensions following a deadly series of cross-border strikes and retaliations.
In a statement issued through American media, President Trump acknowledged the recent escalation that began with Indian airstrikes on multiple locations inside Pakistan on the nights of May 5 and 6. The attacks claimed the lives of 31 Pakistani civilians, including children, and damaged four mosques. Over 70 others were reportedly injured.
Trump remarked that he personally knows the leadership of both countries and maintains positive relationships with them. “I know both the Indian and Pakistani leaders well. They’ve now had their exchange — it’s time to move toward resolution,” he said.
Stressing the urgency of de-escalation, the U.S. President added, “I’m willing to help reduce the tensions between India and Pakistan. If both sides are ready, I stand prepared to assist in any peace efforts.”
Following the Indian offensive, Pakistan delivered a swift and powerful response. Its Air Force shot down five Indian fighter jets, including three of the advanced French-built Rafale aircraft, and destroyed key Indian military assets, including brigade headquarters and several posts along the Line of Control (LoC).
The conflict has drawn widespread international concern, with calls for restraint from global powers. Trump’s offer marks one of the first official international mediation gestures following the crisis.
