USA:( The COW News Digital)- U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has frozen $26 billion in federal funds allocated for Democratic-majority states. The largest share, around $18 billion, was meant for New York’s major infrastructure projects, while another $8 billion for green energy initiatives in California, Illinois, and 14 other states has also been halted.
The administration argues these projects fall under “non-essential spending” during the ongoing government shutdown, which has already shuttered NASA and other federal agencies. However, Democrats have condemned the move as political retaliation, accusing Trump of targeting critical environmental and urban development projects for partisan gain.
Political analysts warn that this decision could delay major public transportation projects in New York and stall climate initiatives, potentially harming thousands of jobs linked to clean energy programs.
The U.S. shutdown, triggered by the failure to pass a spending bill, has already forced 750,000 federal employees on unpaid leave and closed public institutions, including Capitol Hill and the Library of Congress.
