A devastating bus accident in Yazd, Iran, has claimed the lives of 35 Pakistani pilgrims, leaving 15 others with serious injuries. The ill-fated bus, carrying 53 passengers, overturned and caught fire near the Taftan-Dehshir checkpoint, resulting in one of the deadliest accidents involving Pakistani nationals in recent memory.
According to Iranian media, the bus was traveling from Larkana to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage when the accident occurred. The pilgrims, including 14 women, were from various parts of Sindh, with 10 hailing from Khairpur and six from Kashmore.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a technical defect in the bus’s braking system caused the accident. Iranian traffic police have confirmed that the bus’s brakes failed, leading to the tragic incident.
The Pakistani government has expressed grief and regret over the loss of life, with President Asif Ali Zardari directing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide assistance to the wounded and help bring the bodies back to Pakistan. Condolences have also poured in from other political leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and PTI leader Omar Ayub.
The accident has sent shockwaves across Pakistan, with many taking to social media to express their condolences and prayers for the victims and their families. The incident highlights the risks and challenges faced by pilgrims traveling to Iran and other countries for religious purposes.
