Pakistan has witnessed a series of devastating road accidents in recent days, resulting in significant loss of life and injury. The latest incident occurred in Ghotki, where a passenger bus collided with a trailer truck on the Sukkur-Multan motorway, claiming eight lives and injuring seven others.
The bus was traveling from Mansehra to Karachi when the accident occurred in the early hours of Monday. Four of the injured are in critical condition, and the deceased include women and children. The bodies and injured have been shifted to Tehsil Hospital Ghotki for medico-legal formalities and treatment.
Rescue efforts were hindered by rain, causing difficulties in identifying the bodies. The wreckage of the bus and trailer was later shifted to a rest area.
In a separate incident, four people were killed, and 11 others were wounded when a passenger coach fell into a gorge in Mian Khan village of Katlang Tehsil, Mardan. The injured included women and children.
These tragic incidents highlight the need for improved road safety measures in Pakistan. The country has a high rate of road accidents, often caused by reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and inadequate infrastructure.
The government must take immediate action to address these issues and prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. This includes enforcing strict traffic laws, improving road conditions, and ensuring that public transport vehicles are regularly maintained and inspected.
