San Francisco(The COW News Digital) Social media platform Threads has rolled out a major update, introducing a text expansion feature that allows users to publish posts with up to 10,000 words. The move is expected to position Threads as a more versatile platform, bridging the gap between microblogging and long-form content.

The new feature, now officially launched, can be accessed directly from the post composer. A new icon has been added, which, when tapped, opens a blog-style editor. This editor enables users to write extended content beyond the traditional post limit. Once published, the additional text will appear within the update and can be viewed through a “Read More” prompt.

Threads explained that the expansion option is designed to give users more freedom in storytelling, discussions, and professional content sharing. By combining micro-updates with detailed posts, the platform aims to attract writers, bloggers, journalists, and professionals who prefer longer formats.

In addition to longer posts, Threads has also improved link integration. The company confirmed that users will now be able to embed complete content links from other platforms directly into the main body of their posts. This update is expected to make content sharing smoother and more engaging.

Industry analysts believe this is a strategic step for Threads to differentiate itself from competitors like X (formerly Twitter) and even traditional blogging sites. While X has also expanded its word limits in recent years, Threads’ 10,000-word allowance significantly increases opportunities for in-depth posts.

Users have already begun experimenting with the feature, sharing extended opinion pieces, tutorials, and creative writing. Early feedback suggests that the “Read More” prompt provides a seamless experience, preventing long posts from overwhelming feeds while still offering easy access to full content.

Meta, the parent company of Threads, has been actively pushing updates to attract new users and retain its fast-growing base. Since its launch, the platform has rapidly gained popularity but has faced questions about engagement and long-term sustainability. The new text expansion feature is seen as part of Meta’s broader strategy to turn Threads into a hub for both short and long-form digital expression.

As competition in the social media space intensifies, industry experts say this update could redefine how audiences consume and share content on Threads.
