The Islamabad High Court has ordered a halt to the Election Tribunal proceedings for NA-48

News Desk

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has halted the Election Tribunal proceedings for NA-48, following a similar order for NA-47.

Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Aamer Farooq, heard the petition filed by PTI candidate Ali Bukhari. The petitioner, along with his legal counsel, appeared before the court.

The court issued a stay order on the petition filed by Ali Bukhari, preventing the Election Tribunal from proceeding with matters related to NA-48. However, Justice Aamer Farooq clarified that the tribunal could continue its proceedings concerning NA-46.

The court issued notices to all parties involved and requested responses at the next hearing, the date for which will be set by the Registrar’s Office.

It is noteworthy that Raja Khurram Shehzad Nawaz was elected as a Member of the National Assembly from NA-48. Ali Bukhari had challenged Khurram Shehzad’s victory and the Election Tribunal’s jurisdiction in hearing his appeal. Justice (R) Abdul Shakoor Paracha is presiding over appeals related to alleged irregularities in all three constituencies of Islamabad.

The tribunal had scheduled hearings for cases from Islamabad’s three constituencies, including NA-47 and NA-48, for December 24. However, following the court’s order, the tribunal will no longer be able to proceed with cases related to NA-47 and NA-48.
