According to government sources, President Asif Ali Zardari will issue an ordinance related to the registration of madrassas. The decision to issue the ordinance was made during meetings between Prime Minister, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and President Asif Zardari.
Sources also stated that stakeholders, including the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, have agreed on the ordinance concerning madrassa registration. The new ordinance will provide legal protection to madrassas under the Directorate General of Religious Education and the Society Registration (Amendment) Act.
It is noteworthy that in October of this year, Maulana Fazlur Rehman successfully secured the approval of a bill amending the Society Act to make madrassa registration a condition for the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
The bill regarding madrassa registration was passed by the Senate on October 20, and the next day, it was approved by the National Assembly. It was then sent to President Asif Ali Zardari for signature on the same day.
However, the President has yet to sign the bill, preventing the madrassa registration law from being enacted.
