Starbucks’ new CEO, Brian Niccol, has been granted a corporate jet to commute from his California home to the company’s Seattle headquarters, sparking concerns about the company’s environmental commitment. Niccol’s deal allows him to use the jet for both business and personal travel, with an annual cap of $250,000.
This arrangement seems at odds with Starbucks’ goal to reduce waste by 50% and transition to sustainable packaging by 2030. Private jets are significant contributors to carbon emissions, burning 10 times more fuel per passenger mile than commercial flights.
Niccol’s contract also includes a $1.6 million base salary, a $10 million signing bonus, and additional cash incentives tied to company performance. His total compensation package stands at over $113 million.
