Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmed Khan, has emphasized the importance of distinguishing between crime and politics. He stated that the crimes of PTI founder Imran Khan should not be pardoned, and he would strongly criticize any negotiations that involve the forgiveness of his criminal actions.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Interfaith Sufi Festival at the Alhamra Arts Council in Lahore, Acting Governor Malik Ahmed Khan highlighted that the festival’s message was one of love and peace, which creates a barrier of humanity. He noted that the spread and preservation of Islam in this region were foundational principles.
He further stated that personalities like Data Ali Hajvery and Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti are not just individuals but institutions, where hunger is eradicated and love is multiplied.
In a subsequent conversation with the media, the Speaker advised that politics should not become a platform for criticizing institutions. He warned that setting political differences against institutions and creating unrest under the guise of politics is unacceptable.
He reiterated that the crimes of PTI’s founder should not be pardoned. If any negotiations were held involving the forgiveness of these crimes, he would be the first to criticize them.
Commenting on the use of the military for political purposes, Malik Ahmed Khan said, “If you use the army’s shoulder for your benefit, it’s fine, but if someone else does it, then it becomes the subject of criticism.”
When asked about the relationship with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the Acting Governor stated that the working relationship with PPP is positive, with good cooperation in Punjab. However, he noted that individual issues might still arise.
Malik Ahmed Khan also mentioned that changes were being made in the Health Department, which would soon have visible effects on the public. He added that, along with improvements in sanitation, education was also receiving significant attention.
