Sony has officially announced the PS5 Pro, a more powerful and expensive version of its popular PlayStation 5 console. Launching on November 7, the PS5 Pro boasts enhanced graphics and higher frame rates, but comes with a hefty price tag of £699.99, making it Sony’s most expensive console to date.

The PS5 Pro aims to resolve the dilemma between prioritizing visuals or performance, offering a balance between the two. Lead architect Mark Cerny described it as “the most powerful console we’ve ever built.” However, the high price point is likely to generate discussion, with analyst Piers Harding-Rolls noting that Sony is banking on superior performance to entice users to upgrade.

The console industry has faced challenges this year, with declining sales for the PS5, Xbox Series S and X, and the aging Nintendo Switch. The PS5 Pro may not change the market situation, but Sony could be positioning itself for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI next year.

The PS5 Pro is part of a trend of “pro” hardware, offering upgraded versions of current-generation consoles with improved graphics and performance, but without exclusive games. This allows players to experience games on either the regular or pro model, depending on their preferences.
