Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Gandapur, emphasized the need for smaller provinces and administrative units to ensure more efficient governance and improved service delivery at the grassroots level.

Meeting with Young Parliamentarians Forum

The remarks came during a meeting with a delegation from the Young Parliamentarians Forum, comprising representatives from various political parties and provinces. Discussions revolved around national political challenges, mutual efforts for peace, development, and fostering a better political environment in the country.

Benefits of Smaller Units

CM Gandapur highlighted that the large size of provinces and administrative units poses significant challenges to effective governance. “Smaller provinces and administrative units would lead to substantial improvements in service delivery, with 90% of administrative issues resolved at the local level,” he noted.

Development Initiatives in KP

The Chief Minister briefed the delegation on ongoing projects, including the construction of 800 MW hydropower projects. To maximize the province’s hydroelectric potential, the provincial government is building its own transmission line.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by KP, particularly the people of the merged districts, during the fight against terrorism. However, he criticized the federal government for inadequate funding shares for the rehabilitation of these regions’ infrastructure and the ongoing war on terror.

Financial Reforms

To strengthen provincial institutions, the KP government has established a Debt Management Fund worth PKR 50 billion. CM Gandapur underscored the importance of making provincial institutions financially self-reliant.

Delegation’s Appreciation

The delegation praised the Chief Minister’s efforts to promote good governance and combat terrorism, recognizing his initiatives as crucial steps toward building a stable and prosperous province.
