Karachi/Lahore( The COW News Digital)Water levels in the Indus River have risen, prompting flood alerts at the Tunsa and Gudu Barrages and warning nearby low-lying communities to remain vigilant. The Flood Forecasting Division in Lahore reported that moderate flooding is ongoing at these key sites, with authorities monitoring the situation closely for potential escalation.

According to the division, lower-level flooding has also been recorded at the Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Sukkur Barrages, although water levels are expected to rise gradually in the coming days. Officials have advised local administrations and residents to take precautionary measures, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas along the riverbanks.

In addition to the Indus, the Sutlej River is also experiencing lower-level flooding at Head Sallumanki and Ganda Singh Wala, prompting district authorities to stay alert and prepare for any emergencies. Local administrations have been instructed to coordinate with emergency response teams to ensure quick action if the situation worsens.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts for travel and local activities near the affected rivers, emphasizing caution to prevent accidents and minimize the risk to lives and property. The authorities have also urged residents not to approach riverbanks or attempt to cross flooded areas under any circumstances.

The Meteorological Department and Flood Forecasting Division have appealed to citizens to follow official guidance and remain in regular contact with local authorities for updates. They stressed that sudden rises in water levels could occur due to rainfall upstream, which may exacerbate the flooding in vulnerable regions.

Authorities are also coordinating with emergency services, including rescue teams and local administrations, to ensure timely evacuation if required. Communities in Sindh and Punjab have been advised to remain alert to official updates, particularly during the monsoon season, when river water levels can increase rapidly.

Officials warn that continued monitoring of barrages, dams, and riverbanks is crucial for minimizing damage and protecting lives. Citizens have been urged to report any emergencies promptly and follow instructions from local authorities.

With the monsoon season ongoing, the risk of flooding across southern and central Pakistan remains significant, and authorities are emphasizing preparedness and vigilance in all potentially affected areas.
