Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, has urged the Sindh government to take decisive action to eliminate the water tanker mafia following the completion of the K-IV water supply project.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the oversight committee for Karachi’s water supply, Iqbal emphasized that the K-IV project must result in a direct and reliable water supply to households, thereby ending the city’s dependence on private water tankers.
“The people of Karachi deserve clean water delivered straight to their homes,” said the Minister, adding that the tanker mafia should have no role in the city’s water distribution after the project is operational.
He also directed project directors to provide clear timelines for each phase of development to ensure that budget disbursements are aligned with actual progress.
The K-IV project, a long-delayed initiative aimed at addressing Karachi’s chronic water shortages, is being closely monitored at the federal level to ensure timely completion and sustainable water management in the country’s largest metropolis.
