Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to abolish the deceased employees’ quota for their children.
This decision comes after the Sindh Cabinet approved the removal of the quota on December 4, 2024, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling, and the notification for its implementation was issued today. As a result, no further recruitment will be made under the deceased employees’ quota in the province.
The Supreme Court, in its ruling on October 18, 2024, declared the quota policy and packages for the children of government employees as illegal.
The Court had directed both the federal and provincial governments to end the policy of providing jobs to the children of government employees without advertisements or open merit.
Additionally, the Supreme Court nullified the Prime Minister’s Employment Policy and its office memorandum regarding the quota, and Section 11A of the Sindh Civil Servants Rules 1974 was also declared invalid.
The Court found that providing government jobs to the widow or children of government employees without advertisements or open merit contradicted Articles 3, 4, 5, 25, and 27 of the Constitution.
However, the Supreme Court clarified that this decision would not affect the quota already allocated to children of deceased government employees and would not apply to the legal heirs of individuals who were martyred in terrorism incidents.
