Lahore: Visitors to Lahore Zoo were hit with a substantial price hike on the first day of the year, leading to protests from citizens who expressed their dissatisfaction with the new ticket pricing.
The private company that secured the contract to manage the zoo has begun charging 300 rupees for entry, a steep increase that has sparked protests from people visiting from various cities across the country. Many families opted to leave the zoo in response to the new charges.
According to Express News, the private company secured the zoo contract for 50 crore rupees, and on the first day of the year, the company’s staff took over the management of parking, entry tickets, and other services within the zoo.
While the zoo’s original entry ticket price was 100 rupees, the new management started charging an additional 200 rupees for access to the Snake House, causing tension between visitors and the staff.
Citizens criticized the price increase, with many expressing that charging 300 rupees for entry was excessive. Some also objected to being forced to buy tickets for the Snake House, a service they did not wish to use.
After the protests and the news coverage on Express News, the private company ceased the practice of requiring the additional Snake House ticket. Visitors can now choose to purchase the Snake House ticket separately if they wish to view the exhibit.
Additionally, new attractions will be introduced at the zoo in the coming days, with separate tickets for each experience. These include:
- Hologram Ticket: 300 rupees
- Virtual Reality Ticket: 200 rupees
- Mixed Reality Ticket: 100 rupees
- Snake House: 200 rupees
- Aquarium: 100 rupees
- Walk-Through Aviary: 100 rupees
The new pricing structure has stirred considerable controversy, but the administration has adjusted its approach in response to public outcry.
