Former Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik disclosed that he rejected the offer to become a selector before the T20 World Cup. Malik, who was addressing a press conference in Lahore, stated that he instead accepted the role of mentor in the Champions Cup to help fringe players improve their skills.

Malik emphasized the need to focus on the fitness of these players, saying, “My purpose for accepting this role is to make the fringe players learn some things.” He expressed his commitment to giving back to Pakistan cricket, saying, “Whatever Pakistan has given to me through this role, I will try to pay back.”

Regarding the upcoming Champions Cup, Malik mentioned that players from various age groups, including U-19, will participate. He aims to appoint a captain who can contribute to Pakistan’s future cricket prospects.

Malik clarified that he has no intention of playing for Pakistan’s national team again, having already retired from red-ball cricket and ODIs. He fondly recalled his experience playing for the Stallions in domestic cricket, saying, “I have a lot of memories with the name Stallions and will deliver something big for this team as well.”
