Islamabad: Minister of State for IT and Telecommunications, Shiza Fatima, defended the government’s decision to block the platform X, stating that the move was in line with the Ministry of Interior’s instructions. She emphasized that the ban on X does not infringe upon freedom of expression.
In her statement, Fatima pointed out that the country faces cyber threats, making cybersecurity a vital priority. She also noted that less than 2% of the population in Pakistan uses X, justifying the decision.
The Minister clarified that, while the ban was implemented for security reasons, other platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and various digital channels remain available, ensuring freedom of expression.
Fatima further highlighted the growth of Pakistan’s IT industry and exports, which have broken previous records, and reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the IT sector.
