According to reports, she is expected to travel to London via India, with India providing a safe passage.

The departure comes after a brutal day of unrest on Sunday, resulting in nearly 100 deaths. Hasina had been facing nationwide protests against her government since early July, with demonstrators demanding her resignation. Despite efforts to quell the protests, the situation escalated, leading to widespread violence and chaos.

Television visuals showed thousands of people pouring into the streets of the capital Dhaka in jubilation, shouting slogans and celebrating Hasina’s departure. Protesters also stormed Hasina’s official residence, ‘Ganabhaban’, and began chiselling away at a statue of independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina’s father.

Student activists had called for a march to the capital Dhaka on Monday in defiance of a nationwide curfew to press Hasina to resign. The protests were sparked by a range of issues, including economic hardship, corruption, and political repression.

Hasina’s departure marks a significant development in Bangladesh’s political crisis. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days and weeks.
