Saudi Arabia has no objection to the U.S.-proposed Riviera project in Gaza but firmly opposes the displacement of Palestinians, said Prince Khalid bin Bandar, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the UK.
Speaking on the matter, Prince Khalid stated that while the Saudi government welcomes the idea of developing a coastal resort in Gaza, it must not come at the cost of Palestinian relocation.
The Saudi envoy emphasized that no country, including Saudi Arabia, would accept the forced migration of Palestinians in exchange for the project. “Palestine belongs to the Palestinian people, and they have the right to remain in their land,” he asserted.
The proposal, initially floated by former U.S. President Donald Trump, suggested relocating Gazans to other countries before constructing a luxury resort along the Gaza coastline. The idea faced global backlash, with Saudi Arabia and several other nations strongly opposing the move.
