Lahore( The COW News Digital)Pakistan’s T20I captain, Salman Ali Agha, has strongly endorsed former skipper Babar Azam’s remarks describing Mohammad Nawaz as a true match-winner. Speaking to reporters after Pakistan’s emphatic victory over Afghanistan in the tri-nation T20 series final in Sharjah, Salman praised Nawaz’s all-round contributions, saying his performances consistently provide the team with a winning edge.

During the post-match press conference, a journalist reminded Salman that Babar has often called Nawaz “his match-winner” and asked for his opinion on the all-rounder’s latest display. Salman responded: “If Babar says he is a match-winner, then he’s absolutely right. Just look at Nawaz’s batting, bowling, and fielding in this series. Ever since he returned to the team, his performances have been outstanding. He gives you the feeling of playing with 12 players—batting when needed, bowling when required. He is indeed a match-winner.”

The comments came after Nawaz delivered a game-changing performance in the final against Afghanistan. Pakistan, batting first, managed a modest total of 141 for 8 in their 20 overs. Fakhar Zaman scored 27, Nawaz added 25 valuable runs, and Salman himself chipped in with 24. Despite the low target of 142, Afghanistan struggled against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Nawaz’s brilliance.

Nawaz produced a devastating spell, completing a memorable hat-trick and finishing with figures of 5 wickets for just 19 runs in his four overs. His fiery spell dismantled Afghanistan’s batting order, restricting them to only 66 runs in 15.5 overs. Pakistan sealed the victory by a commanding margin of 75 runs, lifting the tri-series trophy in style.

Salman further emphasized Nawaz’s impact on the team, noting that his versatility makes him a rare asset in modern T20 cricket. “He is someone who delivers in all three departments, and that makes him invaluable. Performers like him give you confidence as a captain,” Salman said.

The win not only highlighted Pakistan’s depth in all-round talent but also reignited discussions about Nawaz’s importance in the squad heading into future international assignments. With a hat-trick in a tournament final and consistent contributions with the bat and in the field, Nawaz reaffirmed his reputation as one of Pakistan’s most reliable match-winners.
