Pakistani model-turned-actress Saheefa Jabbar Khattak became the center of attention after publicly shaming her house help Musarrat over how she spent charity money given to her.
Saheefa Jabbar took to her Instagram handle and shared a lengthy note in which she told everything in detail about how the poor girl spent all the money in just two days.
Saheefa gave Rs50,000 to her maid, and she spent all of it in two days to buy Eid clothes and a bicycle for her children.
Saheefa’s gesture did not go well with the netizens as they are of the view that once Saheefa is given the money, it’s upon the girl how she would spend.
Saheefa humiliated Musarrat by discussing the matter online, “It hurts to see that when you try to help people who are underprivileged, they end up wasting money.”One user wrote, “Writing an essay on Instagram shaming an uneducated woman in a language that she cannot even read, to millions of people, BY NAME.”
Instead of apologizing for her post, Khattak doubled down, defending her actions in lengthy comment replies.
She stated, “If I take you to her house, everything she owns is given to her by me.”
In her post, Saheefa states, “I just don’t understand. I feel like overconsumption has become such a cultural norm.” Yes, overconsumption is a problem, but it makes absolutely no sense to talk about overconsumption in a group of people who don’t even have their basic needs covered.
“If she truly cares about Musarrat’s well-being, why didn’t she take the time to speak to her directly and understand her needs instead of turning the situation into a public spectacle”, netizens questioned.
