A district and sessions court in Islamabad has sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Raoof Hasan and other suspects on a 14-day judicial remand in the anti-state propaganda case. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had requested a further five-day physical remand, but the court rejected the request.

Hasan, who was arrested last Monday, has been on physical remand for seven days. His defence counsel, Ali Zafar, informed the court that Hasan’s health is deteriorating and requested medical attention.

The FIA alleges that Hasan and other PTI media cell members were involved in anti-Pakistan propaganda and were in contact with each other. The agency claims that they received a technical report showing the suspects’ communication.

The charges against the 12 suspects include glorification of an offence, cyber-terrorism, and hate speech under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca).
