Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the Jaffar Express traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, critically injuring the train driver. The assailants halted the train in the mountainous region of Machh, reportedly taking passengers hostage.
According to media report, the train departed from Quetta at approximately 9:30 AM. As it passed through the Gudalaar and Piru Kanari areas, armed attackers fired upon it, leaving the driver severely wounded. Panic spread among the passengers, while gunshots continued to echo through the area.
Eyewitnesses and Levies sources confirmed that the incident occurred amid the hills of Machh, where the train was forcefully stopped, and intermittent gunfire could still be heard.
Railway Police verified the attack, stating that the train remains stationary, with an estimated 600 to 700 passengers onboard. Reports indicate multiple passengers may have been injured, though confirmation is still pending.
According to the DS Railway PRO, emergency measures have been implemented at all nearby hospitals, and ambulances have been dispatched from Sibi to the incident site.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and sent additional convoys to respond to the situation.
Sources suggest that the attackers used explosive devices to damage the railway track, forcing the train to a halt before opening fire. Several passengers, including the driver, sustained severe injuries. Evacuation efforts are underway to transport the wounded to Sibi for medical treatment.
No reports indicate that the assailants have fled the scene. Instead, it is believed that they have taken control of the train and are holding passengers hostage, as sporadic gunfire continues in the region.
Security forces are actively engaged in efforts to neutralize the threat and ensure the safety of the passengers.
