In a groundbreaking initiative, the Punjab government has decided to equip all 737 police stations in the province with solar power systems. This ambitious project aims to reduce the reliance on traditional energy sources, promote environmental sustainability, and save billions of rupees.

The project will be completed in two phases, with the first phase focusing on 350 police stations, including 40 in Lahore. The second phase, scheduled for the next fiscal year, will cover the remaining 375 police stations. Each police station will be equipped with a 3-kilowatt solar power system, including batteries, to provide uninterrupted electricity.

This initiative is a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of the police department and promoting renewable energy sources. The solar power systems will not only reduce energy costs but also provide a reliable source of electricity, ensuring that police stations can function smoothly even during power outages.

The project is led by the Punjab government, with support from the Energy Department. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized that the installation of solar systems will not only reduce costs but also improve the environment. He added that the project is a testament to the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The solarization project will also extend to service centers and PHP posts, as well as check posts in the ‘Kacha’ areas with 10-kilowatt solar systems. This will ensure that all police facilities are equipped with renewable energy sources, reducing their reliance on traditional energy sources.

The Punjab government’s initiative is a shining example of how renewable energy sources can be harnessed to power public institutions. It is a step in the right direction towards reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable development.
