Punjab Govt Praised for Peaceful, Well-Managed Ashura 2025

Lahore( The COW News Digital)Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif declared this year’s Ashura as one of the most peaceful and well-managed events in the province’s history. Speaking to media, she said the meticulous planning ensured not only cleanliness and order but also helped “wash away the filth of hatred.”

According to Express News, Ashura processions across Punjab concluded peacefully under strict security and surveillance. CM Maryam Nawaz lauded the efforts of provincial ministers, law enforcement agencies, district administration, intelligence units, and rescue services. She especially commended Salman Rafique and key department officials for their active role.

For the first time, Punjab witnessed comprehensive arrangements such as water sprinkling to combat the intense heat, consistent cleaning of roads, and spraying of disinfectants post-processions. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, along with other cabinet members, visited Metro Bus stations and Nisar Haveli to inspect arrangements and ensure timely response.

The provincial home department, led by Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, provided detailed briefings on live monitoring through 7,500 CCTV cameras, quick-response systems, and coordination across districts. Over 113,000 police personnel were deployed across Punjab for security during the 10 days of Muharram.

Cyber Patrolling Cell of the Home Department reported 1,600 accounts spreading hate speech, resulting in 170 arrests and FIRs. The cell actively worked to counter misinformation and online incitement throughout the sacred period.

Furthermore, temporary medical centers, mobile toilets, clean drinking water stations, and uninterrupted electricity supply were ensured with support from WAPDA and municipal bodies. Emergency response teams remained on alert province-wide.

Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, praised the police force for providing security to over 38,000 Majalis and 9,200 processions without any untoward incident. He acknowledged the guidance of provincial leadership and appreciated the cooperation of the Pakistan Army and Rangers in maintaining peace.

He assured that Punjab Police would continue working with the same commitment to ensure citizens’ safety. Appreciation was also extended to scholars of various sects, peace committees, and media for their role in promoting harmony during Muharram.
