Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued directives for a province-wide crackdown on encroachments, setting a one-week deadline to eliminate illegal structures.
In a high-level meeting, the CM tasked Deputy Commissioners with designing anti-corruption systems and leading efforts to achieve a corruption-free governance model.
Key initiatives announced include:
- Urban Forests on Government Land: Each city has been instructed to establish urban forests on public lands to promote green spaces.
- “No to Plastic” Campaign: Officials have been directed to ensure the success of the province-wide initiative against plastic usage.
- Marriage Act Enforcement: Zero tolerance for violations of the Marriage Act has been ordered to maintain compliance with regulations.
- Pet Dog Regulations: Pet owners must now ensure their dogs wear collars, with fines and legal action for non-compliance. A new system for vaccination and registration of pet dogs is also being introduced.
Additionally, the CM has emphasized improving road safety by introducing designated bike lanes. Inspired by the Chinese model, these lanes will be separated from general traffic using fences or low walls to ensure safe commuting for cyclists.
The sweeping reforms aim to enhance urban living standards, combat environmental challenges, and promote civic discipline across Punjab.
