Islamabad – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has stated that “abusing and grabbing collars” are not part of Pakistan’s values, emphasizing that no mother would ever advocate for burning or dividing the country.
Speaking at a ceremony for the distribution of scholarships among students in Islamabad, Maryam Nawaz criticized those who engage in violent political tactics, stating that the children of those involved in petrol bomb politics and vandalism are living abroad, while the children of the poor languish in jails.
The Punjab CM also reflected on her personal struggles, saying she had faced a campaign of character assassination based on political opposition. “I faced the courts and even served time in jail,” she added, expressing gratitude to her opponents for making her stronger.
Maryam Nawaz pointed out that some people are uncomfortable seeing scholarships being awarded to students, accusing critics of seeking any opportunity to undermine her. She clarified that the scholarship funds were always available with previous governments, questioning why they were not utilized earlier for the benefit of students.
