Punjab Assembly Revises Salaries: MPs’ Pay Increased from Rs. 76,000 to Rs. 400,000

Lahore: The Punjab Assembly has approved the Public Representatives Salary Revision Bill 2024, significantly increasing the salaries of Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) and ministers. Following the bill’s approval, an MPA’s monthly salary has risen from Rs. 76,000 to Rs. 400,000, while a provincial minister’s salary has been hiked from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 960,000.

According to Dawn News, the Speaker’s salary was revised from Rs. 125,000 to Rs. 950,000, and the Deputy Speaker’s salary increased from Rs. 120,000 to Rs. 775,000. Parliamentary secretaries will now earn Rs. 451,000, up from Rs. 83,000. Advisors to the Chief Minister and special assistants have also seen their salaries increase from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 665,000.


Opposition Walks Out Over Alleged PTI Worker Deaths

During the session, opposition members staged a symbolic walkout to protest the alleged killing of PTI workers at Islamabad’s D-Chowk. The opposition leader and PTI lawmakers held a demonstration on the assembly steps, chanting slogans against the government and demanding justice for PTI workers. They carried banners calling for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and questioning the use of force against protesters.


Resolution Praises Maryam Nawaz’s Successful China Visit

The assembly also saw a resolution submitted by MPA Shoaib Siddiqui, lauding Maryam Nawaz for her productive eight-day visit to China. The resolution emphasized that the Chief Minister’s trip strengthened ties between the two nations and led to several significant agreements and MOUs.

The resolution highlighted advancements in the power sector, IT, education, healthcare, and smog mitigation. MPA Siddiqui praised the Chief Minister’s focus on provincial issues, which contributed to the visit’s success.

“The agreements with Chinese companies for public welfare will usher in a new era of development,” the resolution noted, reaffirming the Punjab government’s commitment to economic growth and stability in collaboration with Pakistan Stability Party.
