Police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) spokesperson Raoof Hasan on Monday for allegedly operating a social media cell involved in anti-state propaganda. The PTI claimed that Chairman Gohar Khan was also arrested, but police denied this. Gohar Khan said he was allowed to leave as he was not wanted in any case.
The PTI digital media center was accused of spreading international disinformation and anti-Pakistan propaganda. Police took evidence and equipment into custody and arrested those directly involved.
The PTI condemned the raid, calling it a “mockery of law” and “fascism”. The party’s lawyers’ wing and supporters held a demonstration in Lahore, demanding the release of PTI leaders and workers.
