Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to form a “grand opposition alliance” against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. PTI’s senior leader, Asad Qaiser, stated that the party’s founder, Imran Khan, has given the nod for expanding the existing opposition platform, Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP).
The alliance aims to unite opposition parties against the government, with a focus on demanding the release of Imran Khan and other detained leaders. PTI’s August 5 power show in Swabi is expected to be a significant event in this effort.
Qaiser criticized the government over skyrocketing power bills, calling them “unacceptable” for the inflation-hit masses. He also expressed support for Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) sit-in against the massive hike in power bills.
PTI Secretary-General Omar Ayub Khan condemned the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and urged the international community to take effective steps to ensure peace in Palestine. He also alleged that PML-N and PPP are trying to drive a wedge between the military and the people.
Ayub demanded the recusal of Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq from hearing Imran Khan’s cases, citing bias.
