Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to challenge the verdict in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case within the next 48 hours.
Details from an internal PTI core committee meeting reveal that the party discussed both political and legal options following the case’s outcome. The conduct of the presiding judge and a related Supreme Court decision were also reviewed during the meeting.
According to sources, PTI’s legal team highlighted significant legal flaws in the verdict. The committee deliberated on incorporating the Supreme Court’s observations about the judge’s conduct into the appeal.
The core committee was also briefed on ongoing negotiations with the government. Members expressed frustration over being left out of key updates, emphasizing the need for weekly meetings to ensure better communication and transparency.
Members opined that the government is avoiding genuine dialogue and accused it of adopting undemocratic behavior. “They believed PTI’s leadership would never come to the negotiating table, but we have demonstrated seriousness by even presenting our demands in writing,” said PTI leader Umar Ayub.
During the meeting, MNA Aliya Hamza criticized the lack of protests against the verdict. She questioned why the party had not mobilized its supporters, insisting that the priority should be the release of the PTI chairman.
The committee resolved to stage a strong protest on February 8, following directives from the PTI chairman. It was agreed that organizational preparations for the protest would be finalized after consultations with KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
PTI leaders reiterated their commitment to pursuing all legal and democratic avenues to challenge the case and the government’s actions.
