The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has announced the postponement of its planned rally in Islamabad’s Tarnol Chowk, rescheduling the event for September 8. The decision comes after senior PTI leaders met with party founder Imran Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and follows roadblocks by local authorities.

The PTI had initially decided to proceed with the rally despite the Islamabad district administration’s refusal to grant permission. However, after a meeting with Imran Khan, the party leaders opted to reschedule the event, citing concerns about the government’s potential to exploit the rally and incite unrest.

The Islamabad district administration had withdrawn permission for the rally, citing security concerns and the presence of the Bangladesh cricket team in the capital. The administration also pointed to recent incidents, such as protesters approaching the Supreme Court building, as reasons for heightened security concerns.

PTI leader Azam Swati confirmed the rally’s postponement, stating that the party’s Islamabad chapter, led by Aamir Mughal, would secure the necessary permissions for the rescheduled event. Swati also expressed concerns about the government’s intentions, saying that the PTI would not allow the rally to be used as a pretext for inciting unrest.

The postponement of the rally comes amid ongoing tensions between the PTI and the government. The PTI has been critical of the government’s handling of various issues, including the economy and governance.
