Rawalpindi: PTI Negotiation Committee spokesperson Sahibzada Hamid Raza announced that Imran Khan’s call for overseas Pakistanis to halt remittances to the country will continue. Speaking outside Adiala Jail alongside other committee members, Raza stated that Khan has expressed readiness to forgive past injustices but insists on specific demands being met.

During the media briefing, Raza revealed details of the committee’s meeting with PTI chairman Imran Khan, led by Omar Ayub. He reiterated that the call to suspend remittances stems from alleged violations of civil and human rights, stolen electoral mandates, and the suppression of democratic freedoms since 1971. “This call remains in place until these grievances are addressed,” he said.

Raza emphasized the committee’s intent to conclude negotiations by January 31, 2025, with Ayub set to formally communicate this deadline to the government. He also highlighted Khan’s confidence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister and praised parliamentarians and workers who resisted authoritarian measures, calling them the party’s pride.

Key Demands Outlined

Raza detailed two primary demands:

  1. The formation of judicial commissions to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26. He called for senior judges to lead the investigations, ensuring the release of CCTV footage to identify instigators and clarify responsibilities. Raza noted that the November 26 incident involved gunfire, resulting in 13 fatalities and 64 injuries, labeling it an attack on democracy.
  2. The release of detained PTI workers across various jails, which he termed a crucial part of the committee’s agenda. He also stressed the need for Imran Khan’s release, stating it should occur through legal and constitutional means, not as part of any political deal.

Imran Khan’s Stance on Afghanistan and Negotiations

Raza highlighted Imran Khan’s condemnation of recent airstrikes in Afghanistan and reaffirmed PTI’s position against involvement in foreign wars. He called for resolving all disputes with Afghanistan through dialogue.

The spokesperson concluded by announcing a follow-up meeting with government representatives on December 2, where all demands will be formally presented.
