Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat has criticized the current atmosphere in the National Assembly, describing it as one where the parties are constantly at odds, likening it to a scenario where “co-wives are fighting.”
Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, Marwat expressed his frustration, stating, “We have seen in the last eight months that this is not the National Assembly anymore. This is not the environment where constructive dialogue takes place.”
Marwat also voiced his concerns about the lack of honest communication with the public. “My personal opinion is that the nation is being lied to. Negotiations will not succeed unless political forces discuss the terms of reference (TORs) and then involve the establishment in these discussions,” he stated.
He criticized the ongoing political discourse, noting that while the media often talks about negotiations, no meaningful discussions have taken place within the Assembly. “Political leaders have never said anything positive about each other. The TORs for negotiations are not even being discussed amongst politicians,” he added.
Marwat further addressed the issue of misinformation, particularly criticizing Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry. “I have great respect for Khawaja Asif, but his language often sparks controversy. I am disappointed that while people are suffering and dying, the Information Minister spreads false statements,” he said.
He called for the formation of a committee to address the nation’s issues and resolve problems. “Can’t we create a committee to discuss the TORs and resolve the issues at hand?” Marwat asked, highlighting the dire situation in his home region, where the Taliban has reportedly taken control of areas.
In conclusion, he referenced a statement by Khawaja Asif, which urged PTI to take the initiative in negotiations. “Will Rana Sanaullah formally inform us about the government’s stance?” Marwat questioned, pressing for clarity on the government’s position in resolving the ongoing political and security challenges.
Marwat’s remarks reflect the growing frustration within PTI over the lack of progress in political negotiations and the worsening security situation in the country.
